Being physically fit is something that I take quite
seriously even outside of basketball. To make sure I stay on top of my fitness
I use the Fitbit Charge HR. The Fitbit Charge HR is a fitness wrist band that
can help you keep track of things such as steps taken, floors climbed, distance
traveled, and an important one, your hear rate. The Fitbit Charge HR is a
slightly different version of the normal Fitbit Charge; it just has a little
bit more features.
I haven't had my Charge HR for too terribly long
but I have had it long enough to say it is definitely worth the $150 price tag.
This isn't the first fitness band I have owned in fact, I am a huge supporter
of Nike, I love their shoes, socks, shirts, shorts, basketballs, everything.
Virtually anything sports related I choose Nike. This is why my first fitness
band was the Nike FuelBand. At first I loved it, it was sleek and came with an
iPhone app that you could track everything on. However, it had flaws, flaws I
have yet to experience with my Fitbit Charge HR. The flaws included the
bulkiness of the band and how easy I would catch it on things, which sped up
the rate at which it deteriorated. The band began to display big gashes where I
would hit it and the continuous hitting it on things caused the extension I had
to make it fit my wrist to come loose. The FuelBand also did not have the
battery length that I had hoped for in a fitness band. None of things have
occurred with my Charge HR. Now that I have gotten my companions out of the way
lets talk a little more about why I LOVE my Charge HR.
First of all it looks awesome! I like the simple
design of the Charge HR and the way it feels on my wrist, not to big and not
too small, perfect. It is really nice to wear when I am doing physical
activities as I sometimes forget that I am wearing it. One thing I noticed is
how much I do not notice it when I am out shooting hoops or playing a game,
which is important to me because even the slightest restriction throws my whole
game out of whack. The Charge HR and can be adjusted just like almost any watch
which to me is a very underrated feature. The display on it is also very well
designed. It does not feel overwhelming and shows you basically all you need to
know and nothing else.
It also has a very good amount of different
functional features that I will talk about in the list below.
PurePulse
This is what Fitbit calls its heart monitors on
their products. The band has a censor right under the display that rests on
your wrist as you wear the band. This is what senses your pulse and can
accurately determine your heart rate.
Workout/Activity Monitoring
This function is basically what you would expect
from any fitness band you purchase. It is able to track things such as the
number of steps you've climbed, stairs you have climbed up, and calories you've
burned, you know the essentials to a fitness band. One of my favorite features
is that I can track my runs that I go on. The Fitbit had a companion app that
allows you to view the routes you run and their distances, as well as save
workouts with detailed stats for them.
Caller ID
Now this feature I do not have much experience as I
do not use it very often but I can see how it could be useful. If you were in a
workout you could just look to see who is calling and determine if it is
important enough that should take a break from your workout or if you can just
give them a call later on after the workout.
Sleep Monitoring
This may be favorite feature of all. It allows you
to keep track of your sleep patterns. This is huge for me since sometimes I
have trouble getting real good sleep, which can drastically affect workouts and
meeting fitness goals.
Alarms
Again not a feature I use often, really at all but
I can see its uses. The alarm use a vibrate on your wrist as opposed to a sound
but I am not confident that it would wake me up every time so I don't use it.
Wireless Synching
I would say this is another feature you might
expect with a fitness and but my old FuelBand had to be plugged in USB style to
gather some bits of information, which could be a pain. The wireless synching
for the Fitbit is really nice.
So those were the main selling points of the Fitbit
but I commented on and described them in my consumer voice. The Fitbit Charge
HR is a really great product to help athletes keep their fitness goals in
check. I would give the Fitbit Charge HR a 9/10 but keep in mind that is with
under a full year of owning it and only being able to compare it to my old
FuelBand. I do recommend this product thought to anyone looking for a solid
fitness band! If the price is too much or you can spend a little more, Fitbit
offers other fitness brand models that I am sure are just as good as my Charge
HR in their own right, so go and find out which one is right for you!
do you play basketball with it on?
